The National Umushyikirano Council Meeting kicked off
On Friday, 6 February 2026, the two-day National Umushyikirano Council Meeting 2026 (05–06/02/2026) came to a close. While the main session was held in Kigali, the meeting was also conducted in Gisagara as a remote site for the Southern Province.
The meeting was attended by 560 residents representing others from all sectors of the District. It was highly appreciated by participants, who expressed great satisfaction, particularly with the opportunity to engage directly with His Excellency the President of the Republic.
Two key requests were presented:
- Young people undertaking short-term vocational training should be supported to obtain MINEDUC-accredited certificates to facilitate their entry into the labor market. The Minister of Education responded that appropriate mechanisms are already in place and operational, and encouraged them to work closely with education officials for support.
- In order to expand agricultural market access, residents of Gisagara submitted a request to His Excellency the President of the Republic for the construction of a tarmac road linking them to Kigali via Gasoro (Nyanza) and Bugesera. The Minister of Infrastructure confirmed that the road is planned and will be constructed.
His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Rwanda officially closed the Umushyikirano, thanking participants from all categories and all provinces for their attendance and for the constructive and valuable contributions they made.
It is worth noting that over the past 20 years since the National Umushyikirano Council Meeting was established, this is the third time that Gisagara District has hosted the event. The meeting recorded a 100% attendance rate.
