Action Aid Rwanda organized a commemoration ceremony in memory of ActionAid Rwanda staff who were killed during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi

Today June 19th 2026, A commemoration ceremony in memory of ActionAid Rwanda staff who were killed during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi was held in Kibilizi Sector. The event was attended by the Vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs (VM AFSO), the Country Director of ActionAid Rwanda, the District Commander of the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), and ActionAid staff from across the country and Kibilizi Citizens as well.

The commemoration began with a visit to the Kabuye District Genocide Memorial in Ndora Sector, where participants received a briefing on how the Genocide against the Tutsi was carried out in the district and its impact. They paid tribute to the victims laid to rest at the memorial and laid wreaths on the graves. The activities then continued in Kibilizi Sector, where ActionAid operates.

In her remarks, the Vice Mayor in Charge of Social Affairs encouraged residents and ActionAid Rwanda staff to learn from the country's history by promoting unity, self-reliance, resilience, and safeguarding the achievements made after the Genocide.

As part of the commemoration, ActionAid provided 675 iron roofing sheets and 150 kilograms of nails to roof 15 houses, food assistance for 35 vulnerable families, and support to the genocide memorial. The total value of this assistance was RWF 11,351,000.
