Roads: Gisagara District roads are made up of non-asphalted roads only. These roads link all sectors of this district and also some neighboring districts. Most of those roads have been damaged because there is no drainage system that has been set up. For this reason, one of the priorities for Gisagara district is to rehabilitate all roads that link all sectors of the district and the main road which links Gisagara District and Huye District. (Infrastructure Map in Gisagara District) There are a big number of bridges due to many rivers and swamps that are in this district and these too are in bad shape. That’s why sometimes they are carried along by lashing rain which hinders activities related to transport. Access to Safe Drinking water The population rate having access to drinking water is still very low because only 10% of the population has access to drinking water. The District is now committed to reach the rate of 70% by the end of 2006. Energy This district is still having problems in this area because there is no electricity in most part of the district, starting from the district office. The District is trying to see how we can get access to electricity so as to accelerate growth. The main source of energy used in Gisagara district is fire wood. This is a serious threat to the environment. In order to protect the district against the impending drought a solution has been found in Rondereza- an environment preserving cooker that the district intends to distribute to each household in the coming 6 months. Buildings This district has various buildings such as health centers, schools, sector and district offices, etc but most of them need to be rehabilitated. |
